Indian wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson is likely to be out of the game for five to six weeks. The Kerala cricketer was hit by a sharp bouncer from Jofra Archer in the fifth T20I in Mumbai on his right index finger.
The injury comes as a big setback for him at a time when he is not going through a good run of form in international cricket. He will also miss out from the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals.
Post the fifth T20I in Mumbai, Samson has returned back to his home at in Thiruvananthapuram and soon he will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Scans have confirmed that there is a fracture in his finger with excessive swelling as well.
"Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal for Kerala (vs J&K) in Pune from February 8-12,” a BCCI source in the know of things told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Sanju Samson Just Scored 51 Runs Against England
Samson had a disappointing T20I series against England. He scored just 51 in the five-match series with him getting out to the pacers in all the five games. His scores in the series reads 26, 5, 3, 1, and 16. This highlights his continuous struggles against the short-pitched deliveries against the pacers.
The injury has pegged back Samson's return to international cricket. He was not picked in the Indian squad announced for the Champions Trophy. He was also not picked for the ODI series against England. In all likelihood, Samson might make a comeback now in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals.
Former Indian skipper Kris Srikkanth was disappointed with how Samson played in the T20I series against England. He felt that in these five games, he had an opportunity to score big but he felt that Samson took it on his ego and tried to dominate the pacers way too early and lost his wicket.
"I think he is trying to show his ego. He is trying to say 'no, no, I will play this shot'. Is he going on an ego trip or struggling? I am not sure," Srikkanth said.
