Shubman Gill Tasted Success Against MI In IPL 2025
Gill took over the captaincy from Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024 when Mumbai Indians roped the former GT skipper. The GT batter led his team to a win over Mumbai Indians in their last game. The Titans scored 196 batting first and MI chasing 197 to win fell well short of the target. They lost the match by 36 runs ending on 160/6 in their 20 overs.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya, who is the designated finisher of the side failed to take his team home. Hardik scored 11 off 17 balls walking out to bat at number six ahead of the rookie Robin Minz. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored just 8 in that match as he was castled by Mohammed Siraj.
After winning the game, Shubman Gill, in the post-match press presentation, spoke about how he negated the threat of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in the chase.
"The decision was taken before the first match that the second match (vs MI) will be played on black soil. Yes, that was a factor as well, (MI's strong batting line-up), but this wicket suited us," said Gill in the post-match presentation.
"Batting on black soil, once the ball gets old, it's difficult to clear the boundary, so we tried to maximise the power play. We can all talk about plans, but sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't," he concluded saying.
