Sitanshu Kotak, a well-known batting coach from Saurashtra, is expected to be promoted from his role with India A to become the main batting coach for the Indian team ahead of the upcoming series against England, which includes five T20Is and three ODIs at home. The Indian team is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on January 18 for a three-day training camp.

A source from the Indian board revealed, "Kotak will join the team as the new batting coach, and players will report for the camp on January 18." The camp will involve the entire squad as well as potential players for the ODI team facing England.

Kotak has a wealth of experience as one of the longest-serving batting coaches for India A and will be part of a coaching staff led by Gautam Gambhir. He has accumulated 3,083 runs in List A matches at an impressive average of 42.33, with a top score of 122 not out. However, he is primarily recognized in the cricketing community for his solid technique and consistency. In addition to his achievements in List A cricket, Kotak has scored over 8,000 runs in First-Class matches, displaying grit and skill throughout his career.

His appointment comes after India's disappointing batting performance during their recent tour in Australia, which raised concerns among experts, including Sunil Gavaskar, about the effectiveness of the coaching staff. Notably, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli faced significant challenges as their techniques were disrupted consistently.

Previously, India did not have a dedicated batting coach under Gautam Gambhir, with Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Tendo serving as assistant coaches and Morne Morkel filling the role of bowling coach. This gap in specialized coaching contributed to India's struggles in the past.

Recognizing this issue, the BCCI began the search for a dedicated batting coach, leading to Kotak's expected appointment. While Sitanshu has been recommended for the England series, we will await confirmation regarding his role in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
