‘Why Would It Hurt?’ Surya Kumar Yadav Responds to Snub from India’s Champions Trophy Squad

Summary

"Why Would It Hurt?’Suryakumar Yadav reacts to being left out of India's Champions Trophy squad, sharing his thoughts on the snub ahead of the series.

SKY T20 Captain

The Indian T20 captain addressed the press ahead of the T20I series against England, which is set to begin tomorrow. He faced a series of questions, including a significant one regarding his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad. His response was straightforward: “Why would it hurt?” He explained that he didn’t perform well in this format and was not overly concerned about the snub.

However, he expressed sadness over not being able to deliver his best in previous opportunities, reflecting on his past performance at the 2023 World Cup by saying, “It hurts” for not fully contributing in this format. He also wished the team great success in the Champions Trophy.

Surya Kumar Yadav, known for his exceptional skills as a limited-overs player and fondly dubbed "Mr. 360," has struggled to replicate the same level of performance in the 50-over format. His challenge lies in his patience to build an innings from scratch, which has been somewhat of a problem for the 33-year-old.

Surya often appears to lack patience, attempting to play aggressive shots before getting settled at the crease. This was evident during the World Cup Final, where he was troubled by Australian bowlers, particularly those bowling short deliveries that tested his patience. However, his maturity in coping with the snub and taking it lightly is commendable.

Surya Kumar Yadav on Mohammed Shami's Return

When asked about the return of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his delight at seeing Shami back in the Indian jersey. He emphasized the strength of the partnership between Shami and Bumrah, describing them as a ‘lethal combination’ that poses a serious threat to any opposition. Surya highlighted the importance of their experience and skill, knowing that with both of them in the squad, India’s bowling attack would be formidable in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

"They have played a lot of cricket together. They are experienced bowlers. And whenever you play for India, it's a different feeling, a different emotion. Added responsibility and you love playing.
"So, it will be fun to see them bowling together again. Like we saw in the 2023 ODI World Cup. They bowled well. And hopefully, we will see the same bowling in the Champions Trophy.
