Mumbai Indians lost both their openers, Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia, after a steady start, which caused them to struggle against the Delhi Capitals' bowlers.
MI Openers Off to a Steady Start
Mumbai Indians were forced to bat first after losing the toss. Openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews came to the crease, with Delhi Capitals starting with Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey bowling. They managed to score at a rate of 10 runs per over initially, with Matthews and Bhatia both getting off the mark with boundaries. Yastika Bhatia even took on Shikha Pandey, hitting a six, but then lost her momentum in the following overs. Hayley Matthews survived an LBW scare after a review and managed to find some boundaries as well.
The MI openers had a steady start, scoring 35 runs without loss in the first five overs. However, the last over of the powerplay saw the DC bowlers apply pressure, with Shikha Pandey dismissing Yastika Bhatia for 11 runs off 10 balls. Bhatia edged a full delivery outside off, which was caught by the wicketkeeper. That over ended as a wicket maiden for Shikha Pandey, and MI finished the powerplay with a score of 35/1.
MI Continues to Struggle
Annabel Sutherland was introduced to the attack right after the powerplay and made an impact with her second ball, dismissing the dangerous Hayley Matthews for 22 runs off 25 balls. Matthews attempted to take on Sutherland to end the stalemate but ended up giving a simple catch to Shafali Verma at mid-off.
Harmanpreet Kaur joined Nat Sciver-Brunt in the middle, and both players looked to play it safe for the next three overs. At the end of the ninth over, MI's score was 49/2.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s Quick Comeback
Harmanpreet Kaur took the initiative right after the break, hitting Titas Sadhu for six and two consecutive fours. She scored 18 runs in that over, helping MI reach 67/2 by the end of the 10th over.
