Virat Kohli-Yo-Yo Test

BCCI in the vested interest of the players are keen to bring back the Yo-Yo Test fitness rule that was prevalent during the captaincy of Virat Kohli. This was among the many suggestions presented at the BCCI review meeting after the Australia tour.

India's Test series loss to Australia have made the management make some hard calls regarding the players and their performance. Improving the fitness levels of the players is one such conversation that was spoken a lot about.

The Yo-Yo Test was a methodical fitness training session during Virat Kohli's tenure as captain. They decided to do away with it after his captaincy. However, now they are keen again on bringing the rule back.

A Times Of India report has said that the BCCI medical team has been asked to go back to making Yo-Yo Tests mandatory for every cricketer. They have been further asked to make it a criteria for selection inspite of just focusing on injury recovery for players.

"The board had gone lenient on the players since they are mostly on the road. The focus had shifted to just injury prevention. This has been taken lightly by some players. It is being mooted that a certain fitness level criteria needs to be reintroduced so that complacency doesn't creep in," A BCCI source told the publication.

The management is looking to make a few more changes within the Indian team. One of the methods discussed was about not allowing the family members to be with the players for a long period of time on away tours. Additionally, the BCCI has introduced a rule requiring all players to travel with the team at all times. This was also made mandatory after the senior cricketers in recent years have prefered travelling alone and with their families.

Among the other notable discussions was BCCI's search for a batting coach after the humbling performance of the Indian batters in the series against Australia. Sitanshu Kotak, a veteran Saurashtra cricketer is a name in contention for the role.
