Mumbai Indians have signed 18-year-old Raghu Sharma to replace their rising star, Vignesh Puthur, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.
Vignesh Puthur sustained a bone stress reaction, which sidelined him for the past few matches. The MI camp has confirmed that the 24-year-old will be unable to continue for the rest of the season. Puthur made a significant impact in the first match of the season against Chennai Super Kings, where he took 3 wickets for 32 runs.Â
After this outstanding performance, the Mumbai Indians backed him to play in another five matches, during which he claimed a total of 6 wickets before his injury. Vignesh Puthur was acquired for the base price of 30 lakhs at the mega auction and served as a net bowler for MI Cape Town during the SA20 2025 season. Unfortunately, he will miss the remainder of what could have been a breakout season due to his injury.

Raghu Sharma is an 18-year-old leg spinner from Punjab. He has represented both Punjab and Puducherry in domestic competitions, playing over 11 first-class matches and taking 57 wickets at an average of 17.59, with his best figures being 7 wickets for 56 runs. In List A cricket, he has taken 14 wickets in 9 matches, and he has played 3 T20 matches, claiming 3 wickets in that format.
This young prodigy, discovered by the MI scouting team, will be part of the Mumbai Indians for the remainder of the season. It is uncertain whether he will get a chance to play immediately, but it is a tremendous opportunity for him to develop alongside legends like Mahela Jayawardena and Lasith Malinga, who are on the coaching staff. However, MI might surprise everyone by potentially including him in today's match against Rajasthan Royals. They secured his services for 30 lakhs in the RAPP category.
