Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians (MI) lost to Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings on Monday, May 26, to finish as the fourth team in the playoffs in IPL 2025.
The loss means that MI will play in the Eliminator and will face either Gujarat Titans (GT) or Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) based on the result of the LSG vs RCB encounter.
This is the first time that MI have qualified for the playoffs since their fifth IPL title in 2020. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Shreyas Iyer Takes Punjab Kings To Number 1 Spot And Playoffs
Shreyas Iyer now has the distinction of leading three teams into the playoffs. After DC and KKR, he has now led Punjab Kings to the playoffs and guaranteed them a spot in the top two of the IPL 2025 points table.
Mumbai Indians posted a challenging score of 184 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs on the back of Suryakumar Yadav's 57 runs off 39 balls. However, Punjab Kings chased down the target of 185 runs with nine balls to spare courtesy of Josh Inglis (73 runs off 42 balls). Priyansh Arya also played his part as he scored 62 runs off 35 balls. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer was unbeaten on 26 runs off 16 balls as he ensured PBKS a glorious win, one which has now helped them cement their spot in the top two, besides ensuring their playoff qualification.
Meanwhile, after the match, Rohit Sharma congratulated Iyer for his heroic feat with PBKS. The partnership between Iyer and Ricky Ponting has now worked wonders for Punjab Kings after they took Delhi Capitals to the playoffs in IPL 2019 and 2020.

Rohit congratulated Iyer in his own style as he imitated Iyer's walking style and went upto him to congratulate him on his achievement. PBKS will now play the qualifier 1 and has a chance to make it to the final directly.
