Chennai Super Kings has signed former Gujarat Titans player Urvil Patel to their squad, replacing the injured Vansh Bedi for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season.
Vansh Bedi, who finally got a chance to play in the starting XI against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last match, injured his ACL while practicing just before the toss. He was replaced by Deepak Hooda at the last moment in that match. Unfortunately, Bedi's injury was serious enough for him to miss the rest of the season.
The five-time champions signed Urvil Patel at his base price to fill the void left by Bedi. Patel had been training with the squad for the past few weeks and has now officially joined the team. The Chennai Super Kings announced this signing via their official Twitter handle this evening.

Who is Urvil Patel?Â
Urvil Patel is a 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat who made headlines in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There, he scored a joint record for the fastest T20 century by a wicketkeeper-batter in just 28 balls against Tripura, followed by a 36-ball century a month later against Uttarakhand.
The 22-year-old was the top scorer for Gujarat with 316 runs at a strike rate of 200 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2024-2025 season. Last year, he was signed by the Gujarat Titans for 30 lakhs but never played a match. The Chennai Super Kings have made their third replacement signing this season after previously bringing in 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre from Mumbai and signing Dewald Brevis from South Africa.
Chennai Super Kings became the first team to get knocked out this season, which has been a concerning one for the franchise. Their lack of firepower in the middle order has affected their performance in multiple matches. The signing of Urvil Patel appears promising, as the team may consider giving the young player a chance in their next match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
