MS Dhoni, a former captain of India, is thought to be one of the most inspiring players on and off the field. He was known for leaving his phone in the dressing room before games and even practice sessions..
Gujarat Titans (GT) spinner Sai Kishore, who spent two years under Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), shared insights on this habit and how it helped him succeed and improve his game..
Sai Kishore on Dhoni’s Phone-Free Focus That Inspired Him
Sai Kishore highlighted Dhoni’s unique practice of staying away from his phone, especially when coming to games:
“I have learnt a lot about this from MS Dhoni. He would never pick up his phone. He used to leave his phone in his hotel room and come to the games. That’s how detached he would be. This inspired me because I used to ask myself if being involved in social media was needed. So looking at him inspired me,” Kishore revealed in an interview on Provoke TV.

Kishore’s career clearly reflects Dhoni’s influence. Bought by CSK for ₹20 lakh in 2020, he spent two seasons learning the ropes without playing a match. His move to the Gujarat Titans in 2022 for ₹3 crore marked the beginning of his rise as a key bowler.. Despite being part of CSK in his early IPL days, he didn’t get a chance on the field; his breakthrough came after joining the Titans. Since then, he has been the team’s second spinner alongside Rashid Khan.
