Glenn Phillips notched up his maiden ODI century as New Zealand finished on 330/6 in the first ODI against Pakistan in Karachi on Saturday. This is the first ODI of the tri-series. Pakistan now needs 331 runs to win the first encounter.
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat. The decision proved to be the right one as the batters enjoyed batting on a placid and flat wicket. Will Young (4) and Rachin Ravindra (25) opened the innings. It was Kane Williamson who showed his class with the bat as he scored 58 off 89 balls.
Daryl Mitchell scored 81 off 84 balls and added a 95-run stand. After Williamson's dismissal, Glenn Phillips joined hands with Mitchell and added 65 runs for the fifth wicket. After Daryl Mitchell's untimely dismissal, Phillips was first slow to start off but cashed in once he was set.

Glenn Phillips Scores First ODI Ton As Pakistan Crumble Under Pressure
He scored most of his runs in the final 10 overs of the New Zealand innings. He finally ended unbeaten on 106 off 74 balls with six fours and seven sixes. The Kiwis hit 14 sixes in total with the batting depth of the side getting showcased in this innings.
Glenn Phillips paced his innings beautifully and ran quick in between the wickets. He made the Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan think about placing the field as well as he consistently hit the gaps.
Talking about Pakistan's bowling effort, Shaheen Afridi picked 3 for 88 as he was taken for plenty by Phillips in his final spell in the death overs. Naseem Shah went for 70 off his 10 overs. Haris Rauf could not complete his quota of overs as he picked up a niggle while starting his seventh over. That was when the Kiwis cashed in and scored 97 runs of Pakistan's part-time spinners Salman Ali Agha and Khudsil Shah. New Zealand scored 25 runs in the final over and scored 120 runs in the final 10 overs.
Pakistan, the proud hosts of the Champions Trophy now need to chase down a mammoth score and win the first ODI of the tri-series.
