Delhi Capitals, who are playing against the Gujarat Giants in WPL match in Bengaluru have restricted them to a below-par score of 127/9. Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Right from the first over, the Capitals bowlers had a check on the Gujarat scoring rate.
Marizanne Kapp and Shikhar Pandey bowled double-wicket overs inside the powerplay to restrict the Giants to 54/5 inside the first 10 overs. The Giants' innings never got started with their batters falling for low scores.
Four among the top five batters in the line-up were dismissed for single-digit scores. Deandra Dottin, (26) batting at number six, tried to bring the innings back on track with a cautious knock. The impetus to the innings was provided by Bharti Fulmali and Tanuja Kanwar's 51-run stand. They took the Gujarat Giants innings forward from 60/6 to 111/7. Fulmali hit some lusty blows during her innings and scored at a strike rate close to 150.
In between, Gujarat played a lot of dot balls that pegged back their innings. The Delhi bowlers gave away as many as 21 extra runs with 12 of them being leg-byes. While the Giants' innings was tottering, the extras helped them get past the 120-run-mark.
Delhi Capitals bowlers kept on chipping away with the wickets. Shikha Pandey, Marizanne Kapp and Annabel Sutherland took two each as the seamers did all the damage to the Gujarat innings. They finally restricted them below 130 which showcased a good effort from the Delhi bowlers.
This is a crucial match for both teams with the Gujarat Giants losing to Mumbai Indians in their last game and the Capitals losing to UP Warriorz. Delhi should size up this chase easily at the Chinnaswamy.
