Summary

Delhi Capitals defeated Gujarat Giants by six wickets in match 10 of WPL 2024 to top the points table after a comfortable win in Bengaluru.

Jess Jonassen scored her maiden fifty in the WPL against Gujarat Giants.

Delhi Capitals women notched up their third win of WPL 2025. They defeated the Giants by six wickets in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the win took the Capitals to the top of the points table.

Delhi Capitals headed into this game after losing their previous game against UP Warriorz. The Meg Lanning-led side sized up the opportunity against Gujarat Giants who were well below par with bat and ball.

Batting first, the Giants could only muster 127/9. Their top-order did not contribute anything substantial. Runs came from Bharti Fulmali (40 off 29), Deandra Dottin (26 off 24) and Tanuja Kanwar (16 off 24). Fulmali hit some lusty blows in the end to help the Giants post a target close to 130.

Delhi Capitals in their chase lost skipper Meg Lanning (3 off 13) as she was cleaned up by Kashvee Gautam. Shafali Verma (44 off 27) and Jess Jonassen (61* off 32) added a stand of 74 runs to take the score to 88/2 in the 10th over.

The Capitals lost a few quick wickets in the 13th and the 14th over with the team on the brink of a win. With Jonassen holding fort at one end, Capitals lost Jemimah Rodrigues ( 5 off 9) and Annabel Sutherland ( 1 off 2). However, the experienced Jonassen coupled with Marizzane Kapp (8 off 9 balls) ensured that did not lose any more wickets as they chased down the target in the 16th over of the innings and won the match by six wickets.

Winning Moment For DC Against GG

The Giants were no match for the Capitals in the end. The Giants players did not make the most of the opportunities with bat or ball. The Capitals, on the other hand, were in the game, right from the moment they won the toss. Skipper Meg Lanning called the coin right, made the right bowling changes that worked in the team's favour. Jonassen scored her maiden WPL fifty and the knock from Verma came at the right time as well.

"I loved it. Bit surprised by the opportunity, I was happy to take it. We thought, with the spinners, it held a little bit bit. There was a bit of swing. Tried to go straight as much as possible. Really pleased that I was able to get the job done for the team tonight. It's amazing, we've got almost all bases covered. The seamers bowled amazingly. It's nice to have a lot of options. Nice to know that we have someone who can put their hand up in any situation" said Jonassen who was named The Player Of The Match.

As said earlier, the win takes the Capitals to the top of the points table while the Giants are languishing at the bottom with just one win and a lot to do in the remaining games.
